Spring Time - Auto Tips

Now that Spring is here, it is a great time for auto maintenance. Washing and waxing on a warm sunny day is a great feeling. Winter is fading away fast along with the dirt and grime. Put the snow shovel, the gloves, and boots away until next season because Summer is right around the corner.

Preparing now in Spring will ensure your Summer driving plans are Trouble free. Here are some tips to get ready for Summer.

  1. Follow the recommended service schedules in the owner's manual. Hopefully it is still in your glove box. If not, search for your maintenance schedule online.

  2. Check and replace any worn wiper blades.

  3. Fill the washer reservoir with washer solvent to wash away dirt and insects. Keep an extra gallon in your trunk or garage.

  4. Inspect all lights and bulbs; replace burned out bulbs. Many parts stores will install the bulb for you.

  5. Check the condition of the tires, especially the spare. Always check the tire pressure before driving when the tires are cold.

  6. Change the engine oil and oil filter according to the maintenance interval in the owner's manual. Make sure you dispose of used oil properly, many parts stores will accept used oil and filters.

  7. Replace any other filters (air, fuel, PCV, cabin, etc.) as recommended by the service schedule in the owner's manual.

  8. Check the engine coolant level, condition, and concentration. Never remove the coolant system cap when the engine is hot.

  9. If needed, flush and refill the cooling system (radiator) according to the owner's manual recommendations and service interval.

  10. Check the tightness and condition of belts, clamps, and hoses.

  11. Check and service the air conditioner system to reduce the likelihood of more costly repairs.

  12. Take care of any hard starting, rough idling, or engine stalling concerns before the hot Summer weather arrives.
